TikTok Shadow Ban Test: How to Check Your Account
A TikTok shadow ban test takes about ten minutes, and every step happens inside TikTok. TikTok has an Account check screen, puts a notice on restricted profiles, marks ineligible posts in their analytics, and shows where each post's views came from. Run the five checks below in order. The first three answer the question directly; the last two confirm it from the numbers.

Before you test
Two things make the test worth running.
Turn analytics on. TikTok's help page on posts that aren't getting views says analytics are only generated for videos posted after you turn the feature on. A post from before that has no numbers to read.
Wait for the data. The same page says analytics data may take 1 to 2 days to update (as of October 2026). Test on posts that are at least two days old, and leave this morning's post out of it.
Check 1: Account check in TikTok Studio
Account check is TikTok's own status screen. Its help page, Your account status, gives two ways in (as of October 2026):
From TikTok Studio
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu button (☰) at the top, then select TikTok Studio.
- Under More tools, tap Account check.
From Safety Center
- Tap Profile, then the Menu button (☰).
- Select Settings and privacy, then Support.
- Tap Safety Center, then Account check.
The screen lists login, posting, commenting, profile editing and direct messages. Each one gets a check mark when there is no issue and a warning sign when there is. A warning here is a restriction, and tapping it tells you which one.
Check 2: The notice on your profile and in your inbox
When TikTok makes a whole account ineligible for recommendation, its help page Why is my account not being recommended? says it notifies you in two places:
- Your profile. An Ineligible for recommendation notice sits below your username. Open your own profile and look.
- Your inbox. A notification says the account is ineligible. Tap Inbox, then look through your notifications. Notices about removed content and violations land under System notifications, in Account updates.
Either notice is the clearest result the test can give. It means the For You feed has stopped showing your posts and search shows them less.
Check 3: Ineligible posts in analytics
A single post can be kept out of the For You feed while the account stays eligible. TikTok's page on content violations says you can see the decision in a post's analytics:
- Open the post.
- Go to its analytics, through More insights or the More options menu.
- Look for a notice that the post is ineligible for the For You feed.
Check your last ten posts. One ineligible post among ten is a content problem with that post. Several in a row is how an account gets to check 2.
Check 4: Where your views come from
This check needs no notice from TikTok. It reads the pattern in your own numbers.
TikTok's Creator Academy article on using analytics describes the path: go to your profile, tap the menu bars, select TikTok Studio, find Analytics and tap View all. Each post's page shows its traffic source, which splits the views by where viewers found the post: the For You feed, your profile, the Following feed, search and sounds.
Write down, for your last ten posts, the share of views that came from For You. Then compare with ten posts from a month when things were normal.
- For You share about the same, total views lower. The feed is still showing your posts, to a smaller test audience that is not watching. That is a content problem, often called 200 view jail.
- For You share fallen close to zero on every post, while profile and Following views hold. The feed has stopped recommending you. Go back to checks 1 to 3; the reason is usually there.
TikTok does not publish a "normal" For You share, so compare your account with itself. Figures like "under 70% means you are banned" come from creators, and TikTok has never stated one.
Check 5: Search from a second account
An ineligible account becomes harder to find in search. You can see that from the outside.
- On a second account that does not follow you, or a phone that is logged out, search your exact username.
- Search a phrase from the caption of a recent post, in quotes if you can.
- Search one of your own original sounds, if you have one.
If your account shows up for its username and your post shows up for its caption, search is working for you. If you only appear after scrolling past accounts with weaker matches, search is showing you less, which fits an ineligible account. Treat this check as support for checks 1 to 4, never as the answer on its own: search results are personalized, and they differ from phone to phone.
Reading the results
| What you found | What it means | Next | |---|---|---| | Warning in Account check | A feature restriction | The fix | | Ineligible notice on profile or inbox | The account is out of the For You feed | The fix | | One or two posts marked ineligible | Those posts are out; the account is fine | Appeal or delete them | | No notices, For You share normal, views low | Videos are shown but not held | 200 view jail | | No notices, videos stall a little higher | They pass one test, fail the next | Stuck at 500 views |
What shadow ban checker sites can see
Sites that offer to check a TikTok account for a shadow ban, or to check and remove one, work from what anyone can see without logging in as you: your public profile, your follower count and the view counts on your public posts. From that they can tell you that your views fell, which you already knew.
What they cannot see is the part that decides the answer: your Account check screen, your inbox notices, which of your posts TikTok marked ineligible, and where your views came from. Those sit behind your login, inside TikTok. No outside tool can remove a restriction either, because the only ways out are the ones TikTok offers: appeal, or change what the account posts. A site asking for your password to "check" or "remove" a shadow ban is asking for your account.
FAQ
Is there an official TikTok shadow ban test? The closest thing is Account check in TikTok Studio, together with the ineligible notice on your profile. TikTok does not call it a shadow ban test, but those two screens show the restrictions TikTok applies.
How often should I test? When views drop across several posts at once, after two days have passed for analytics to update. Testing daily on one slow post tells you nothing.
My Account check is all green but my views are low. What now? Then TikTok is still recommending you. The videos are reaching a first audience and losing it. Read TikTok 200 View Jail and look at the retention graph on your last few posts.
Does a private account count as shadow banned? A private account's posts only reach approved followers, so they never reach the For You feed. Check that your account is public before testing anything else.
Recap
Run Account check, look for the ineligible notice on your profile and in your inbox, check your recent posts' analytics for ineligible marks, compare your For You share with a normal month, and search yourself from a second account. A warning or notice is a restriction, and Fix a TikTok Shadow Ban is the next step. No warning and a normal For You share means your videos are being shown and not held, which is a different problem with a different fix.
