Fix a TikTok Shadow Ban: How to Get Your Reach Back

GustafGustafFounder, Postjam

To fix a TikTok shadow ban, find the posts TikTok flagged, appeal the ones it got wrong, delete the ones it got right, and keep posting original videos while the account recovers. TikTok calls the state "ineligible for recommendation", and it offers an appeal for both a single post and a whole account. Everything that works runs through those two routes; nothing outside TikTok can lift it for you.

This post assumes you have already confirmed a restriction. If you have not, run TikTok Shadow Ban Test: How to Check Your Account first. A low view count with no notice from TikTok needs a different fix.

Step 1: Find what TikTok flagged

Every fix starts from TikTok's own list of what it objected to. There are three places to read it:

  • The ineligible notice. When the whole account is ineligible, TikTok's help page Why is my account not being recommended? says the notice on your profile and the inbox notification both lead to the ineligible videos, so you can see what was flagged and why.
  • Account check. In TikTok Studio, under More tools, Account check shows any restriction on posting, commenting, your profile or messages (the steps are on TikTok's account status page).
  • System notifications. Notices about removed content and violations are in Inbox, under System notifications, in Account updates.

Make a list: each flagged post, the guideline TikTok names, and whether you agree.

Step 2: Appeal what TikTok got wrong

TikTok reviews some decisions automatically, and machines misread videos. If a post was flagged for something it does not contain, appeal it.

For an ineligible account, the steps on TikTok's help page (as of October 2026):

From your inbox:

  1. Tap Inbox at the bottom.
  2. Tap the notification that your account is ineligible for recommendation.
  3. Tap View more.
  4. Review the ineligible videos, then tap Appeal at the top.

From your profile:

  1. Tap Profile at the bottom.
  2. Tap the Ineligible for recommendation notice below your username.
  3. Review the ineligible videos, then tap Appeal at the top.

For a single ineligible post, TikTok's page on content violations and bans gives the path through the post's analytics: open the post, go to its analytics through More insights or More options, tap the notice that the post is ineligible, then tap Appeal. If the appeal succeeds, the post can be recommended again.

For removed content and strikes, the notice that told you about the removal carries the appeal. A successful appeal reinstates the content and removes the strike, as long as you have not deleted the post.

Appeal only what you can defend. An appeal for a post that does break the rule wastes the review and leaves the post in place.

Step 3: Delete what TikTok got right

TikTok ties an account's way back to how much unsuitable content it still holds. Its help page says it may restore an account to good standing automatically, "depending on how much content on your account isn't suitable for the For You feed".

So for each flagged post you agree with, delete it or set it to private. Deleting a post with a strike forfeits the chance to appeal that strike, so finish step 2 first.

Delete the flagged posts and leave everything else. Wiping an account clean removes the posts that were fine, which are the posts that tell TikTok what the account is about.

Step 4: Stop what caused it

Deleting flagged posts clears the record. The account only stays clear if the next posts are different. TikTok's guidelines name the causes that most often catch accounts posting daily:

  • Unoriginal or reused material. The Integrity and Authenticity section makes content ineligible for the For You feed "if it includes unoriginal or reused material without anything new." Post your own recordings. If you use a clip from elsewhere, add something to it that makes it yours: your voice, your reaction, your product.
  • Watermarks and re-uploads. A video downloaded from another app with its logo still on it reads as reused. Export the original file and upload that.
  • Automation tricks and bought engagement. The same section prohibits automation tools and scripts "designed to bypass our systems", and the trade in likes and followers. Stop any service that follows, likes or comments for you.
  • Asking for gifts, likes or follows. Content built to make people inflate likes or follows is ineligible. A call to action is fine; a video whose whole point is "like this to see part 2" is the pattern TikTok names.
  • Mature themes. The For You feed eligibility standards leave out content not suitable for a broad audience. If your niche sits near that line, keep the For You version of your content on the safe side of it.

Step 5: Keep posting, at a steady pace

A common piece of advice is to stop posting for a week or two. TikTok has never said that a pause helps, and its own description of how it restores accounts points the other way: what counts is how much of your content is unsuitable. Each new, eligible post lowers that share. A pause leaves it where it is.

What matters is the kind of post, and the pace:

  • Original posts that follow the guidelines, in the format your account normally posts, for the audience it normally reaches. That gives TikTok fresh evidence of what the account is.
  • One to a few a day, every day. A steady rhythm looks like a creator. Ten posts in an hour after a week of silence looks like the spam behaviour TikTok is watching for.
  • New videos, never the same file again. Re-uploading a video that already exists on your account is reused material by TikTok's own definition.

This is where a tool like Postjam fits, and only here: each export is a new video, stitched fresh from your hook clips, demo recordings and texts, so a daily schedule never means uploading the same file twice. On TikTok the post arrives as a draft in your inbox and you tap post, because posting straight through TikTok's API tends to hurt account health (why). It does nothing to a restriction itself. Steps 1 to 4 are the fix; Postjam keeps the posting that follows them steady.

How long the fix takes

TikTok publishes no fixed time for an ineligible account (as of October 2026). Its help page says restoration can happen "at any time", depending on what is on the account, and an appeal ends it as soon as it succeeds.

Strikes have a published clock. TikTok's page on content violations says strikes expire after 90 days and then stop counting toward a permanent ban (as of October 2026).

Check Account check and your profile once a week while you work through this. The notice going away is the sign it has lifted. Views come back more slowly, because the For You feed has to test your new posts before it widens them.

What does not fix it

  • Shadow ban "removers". No site or app can change TikTok's decision. A tool that asks for your login to remove a ban is a risk to the account.
  • Deleting and reposting en masse. Reposting old videos as new uploads is reused material, which is one of the causes.
  • A new account to dodge it. The Integrity and Authenticity section says that if your account is restricted, you may not create or use another account to get around it.
  • Buying views to "restart" the account. Bought engagement is itself grounds for restriction, and TikTok says it removes inflated metrics when it finds them.

FAQ

How do I get my TikTok account back to good standing? Appeal the posts TikTok got wrong, delete the ones it got right, and post original, eligible videos. TikTok says it may restore the account automatically depending on how much unsuitable content remains, or when an appeal succeeds.

How long does a TikTok appeal take? TikTok does not publish a review time. Check the notice on your profile and your inbox for the result.

Should I stop posting while shadow banned? TikTok has never said a pause helps. Keep posting original videos at your usual pace, so the share of eligible content on the account rises.

Will deleting all my videos fix it? Deleting the flagged posts can help. Deleting everything throws away the posts that were fine and changes nothing about why the account was flagged.

Can I appeal more than once? TikTok's help pages for ordinary accounts do not state a limit on appeals as of October 2026. Appeal each decision once, with a post that does not break the rule.

Recap

Read what TikTok flagged in your notices and Account check, appeal what it got wrong, delete what it got right, and stop posting reused material or anything built to inflate engagement. Then keep posting new, original videos every day. If you are not sure what a shadow ban is yet, TikTok Shadow Ban: How to Tell If You Have One explains it; if TikTok shows no restriction at all, TikTok 200 View Jail is the post you need.
