YouTube Community Posts: How to Unlock Them and the Subscribers You Need
As of October 2026, YouTube's help center gives no subscriber number for community posts. Its page Learn about posts lists only who cannot post: supervised accounts, channels set as "Made for Kids", and channels in Germany, where posts are not available. A channel outside those groups, with any number of subscribers, should see the option.
The feature has also been renamed. YouTube now calls community posts Posts, and they live on a Posts tab on your channel. The rest of this guide covers how to make one, the limit on how many, and what to check if you can't.

How many subscribers you need
None that YouTube states. The number has moved over the years: in 2017 YouTube's own blog opened the feature to channels with over 10,000 subscribers, and later guides give 1,000 and then 500. Neither of YouTube's current pages on the feature, Learn about posts and Create a post, mentions a subscriber count, and the second links to the first for eligibility.
If a guide gives you 500 as today's number, check its date. YouTube's help center is the place to confirm, since the rule has changed more than once.
Who can't make posts
From YouTube's Learn about posts, as of October 2026, posts aren't available if:
- you're using a supervised account, or
- your channel is set as "Made for Kids".
The page adds that posts are not currently available in Germany, that access "can change based on your channel role" (a channel manager or editor may not have it), and that channels that violate the Community Guidelines may lose access to features, posts included.
How to make a post on YouTube
On a phone (Android or iPhone). From YouTube's Create a post page:
- Tap Create, then Post.
- Type a message, or pick image, poll or quiz for that kind of post.
- Tap Post.
Image posts made on a phone get suggested music added, which plays when the post shows in the Shorts feed. You can change the song, or remove it, before posting.
On a computer.
- Sign in to YouTube.
- At the top of the page, select Create > Create post.
- Type a message, or choose a video, poll, quiz or image post from the menu at the bottom of the box.
- Select Post.
To schedule one, on a computer click the down arrow next to Post and pick Schedule post; on a phone tap the clock in the top right while you write it. Scheduled posts show in YouTube Studio under Content > Posts.
YouTube's limits on each type, as of October 2026: up to 10 images, each up to 16 MB, in JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP, with a 1:1 ratio suggested; polls with up to 4 options; quizzes with up to 4 answers.
Why you can't make a post
Work down this list.
- The channel is set as Made for Kids. Check it in YouTube Studio under Settings > Channel > Advanced settings. A channel made for kids cannot post.
- You're on a supervised account. Posts are off for those.
- You're in Germany. Posts are not available there yet.
- You're not the channel owner. Your role on a channel you manage can limit access.
- The channel broke the Community Guidelines. YouTube says it may restrict access to features, posts included.
- You hit the daily limit. See the next section.
- The app is out of date. Update it, or try from a computer.
If none of these fit, the Create a post page is the one YouTube keeps current; check it for anything new.
How many posts you can make a day
YouTube limits it but gives no number. The Create a post page says: "We limit how many posts a channel can create in a 24-hour period to protect the YouTube community. If you run into a 'limit reached' error message, try again in 24 hours."
For most channels that limit never comes into play. One or two posts a day is already more than most subscribers will see.
What to post
Posts show on your channel's Posts tab and on a Posts shelf on its Home tab, and image posts with music can show in the Shorts feed. Use them for what a video can't do:
- Polls and quizzes to ask your audience what they want next, and then make it.
- A link to a new video or Short with one line on why it is worth watching.
- Images from work in progress, between uploads.
- A question that starts a comment thread.
A channel that posts Shorts often has the most to gain, because posts keep it in front of subscribers between uploads. If you post Shorts from the same footage you use on TikTok and Reels, a 9:16 frame works on all three; TikTok Video Width and Height covers sizing it once. Postjam posts Shorts to YouTube on a schedule alongside the other platforms; posts themselves you make in YouTube.
